Reading a Story or Watching Its Movie

I have read many novels and when I watched their movies I was disappointed. I felt that the reading experience was more intimate and engaging because it provided me the opportunity to sketch the characters, settings and events on my own. nevertheless, many think that watching the movie saves time and provides one with beautiful scenery. What about you, which do you enjoy more: reading "The Necklace" or watching it?

Reading a story, a book or a novel is a much interesting experience than watching a movie! Yes watching a movie saves time, but it won't let you experience the flavor of opening a book and touching it's pages and smelling them. Personally, reading a book lets me travel into the world of imagination and tact every single detail out there, it gives me the opportunity to stop whenever i enjoyed a scene or an act and read it one more time!

I personally prefer reading a book whether its a hard copy or a soft one, both give me the experience of going over each and every detail that is going on. Moreover, i get to understand how the characters are feeling and read what they are thinking, whereas in the movie all that is not shown, its just a sequence of events and actions, paying less attention on the characters emotions, thoughts, and realizations.

reading is important and it stimulates the imagination of the reader but with respect to me I enjoy watching a story as a movie more than reading it where I can remember it for a longer time .

When you read a book , you start to imagine every single thing , you build pictures according to your experience and to your own point of view but when you see a movie , it limits your imagination and bound you with the director's point of view .

Of course reading is much better than watching the movie. You get to visualize and predict what is going to happen next without someone telling the whole story and ruining everything. And you can read whenever you want and wherever you are. Reading develops the language and the critical thinking an individual should have. It also gives the reader a space to pause and reflect on the events.

Reading books and watching movies are two of the most enjoyable activities for me. However, I would always enjoy reading a book instead of watching its movie adaptation. This is because reading gives me a private space of imagination where I can picture the characters and the events and vicariously experience the novel. Some movie adaptations omit many events of the novel and portray the characters in a completely different way than they are presented in the novel. One of the worst examples is the movie adaptation of the novel The Kite Runner. The novel itself is a marvelous piece of art which leaves a strong emotional impact on the reader. However, the movie is nothing but a disappointing failure. On the other hand, there are some novel-based movies which are excellent. An example is the latest movie of The Great Gatsby. This movie really portrays the characters and the events of the novel in a way which is very close to the presentation in the novel; especially the character of Jay Gatz which is played by Leonardo Di Caprio.

Reading a book gives you the chance to be the illustrator of whatever happens in the story. When reading you put all your senses into it. You can read deep into the lines and IMAGINE because there are no limits, you are free to join the character and feel the things they feel! The letters, the words, the lines move back and forth from your eyes, to your mind, to your lips and sometimes to your heart when you read!

Watching movie or film of the story or novel... is nice and it helps us to save time and get the theme quickly. Actually I enjoyed watching movies so much, however reading is much interesting because it helps us to improve our language first, enjoying the events step by step and stop whenever we want to read it again and again and enjoy the scene.

It is nice to do both things reading and watching. One might misunderstand a certain point, but watching that story in a form of a movie clarifies the idea and the point behind that story.

With respect to me, i prefer watching a movie rather than reading a story because first of all iam not interested in reading at all. Second, if you want to
read a story, you need a lot of time to finish it however a movie comes like a summary and thus it saves time

Reading a story in a book is really different from watching this novel as a flim thats sometimes you will understand the story in different way , maybe you will hate some characters that when you first knew of them as protogonists of novel or story..
but really both are good , i encourge people first to read novel and know the real story and events before watching it as a film..... since everything can be written but their are emotions and feelings that cant be seen when we watching flim...

i prefer reading a book than sitting and watching a movie. actually i don't have the habit of watching TV, i rarely do so. However, reading a book really helps in improving our language and widening our imagination which is much more useful.

Well every time after I finish reading a book or a story, i get very excited to watch its film. But of course reading a very interesting story or a book is very different from watching its film. In some cases you feel like you wished that you didn't watch the film and keep the story in your mind as you imagined it, but in other cases you really don't regret it and you get more satisfied when you watch the film. So in my opinion its important to try both watching and reading and keep the pleasure for the most effective one.

Both of them is good
During watching a story, you will memories it for a long time but all the events in the story will not be mentioned
So, reading story is more interesting and you will know every event in it.
first read then watch is better

Reading a book gives you the chance to travel in its depth of thoughts and control your imagination about all its aspects. Movies have the power to draw your scheme about the story in your head. However, each has its sense of pleasure that gives to its audience.

I believe both have their own positive sides. It is true that you could undrstand the author's point of view best through reading the actual book, and if it is a hard copy that would be even better! but on the other hand, watching it as a movie also has its positive side since there are alot of things you would understand more if you watch the movie.
As a conclusion, i think it would be a good idea to read the book as a hard copy, and then watch its movie :)

Reading a book always gives you a clear idea of how characters feel and think, when reading a book you become able to image the scene in your head ,the characters, you also become able to predict what is going to happen then. Also I think that reading can improve your language. In other words, a book gives you the small details which helps in designing the perfect scene that you as a reader expect. However, watching the movie is not a bad idea,it gives you an idea of the places, time and other general events...

I agree with your idea Dr.Amale ,reading a book is very enjoyable and make us imagine the scene as we like to see it,while watching a movie is enjoyable too but we see the scene as it is...

I liked the idea.

reading a book is better than watching its movie, because the book helps you have a better vocabulary, it helps your imaginary to work and think about the characters, actions of the story, and may be to think of another end about the story.

I agree, sometimes movies doesn't reflect the true meaning for a story especially by characters.

Both are good, but for me reading books is more effective because it leads for deeper understanding when reading in depths instead of watching a movie.

Actually I enjoy both reading and watching the story. I enjoy reading the story because you travel to a different world with the author, and when you watch the movie you will enjoy watching your favorite characters and scenes.

For me, I preferred before to watch the movie rather than reading more than 300 page in a story. But one day, I watched a movie, then I've read the story. I found that the story was more attractive than watching the movie, it's very accurate, more detailed, it helps you to imagine the events of the story. Also, this will encourage you to continue reading the story to know what's going to happen, more than in a movie, and in our days, stories are being denied, and people are sticking more in movies. So its so nice to bring back the importance of stories, and the delight of reading them.

According to me, reading a book is better than watching a movie anytime!Reading books gives us the ability to get into the character's head. We get to know exactly what the characters go through, their intentions, motivations, and how they perceive the world around them. The extent to which movies are able to manage this is limited. This is because they are highly dependent on the actors' reactions and expressions, which aren't as effective as having their thoughts being read out to us.

I absolutely agree . when reading a book we are giving a wide margin for our imagination and we can critically think and relate . Unlike the movies most of the time the director leads us the way he/she wants .
