The Workplace

I designed this project to use with the unit titled The Workplace. My students have enjoyed this project throughtout the years especially since they feel that the activities are related to their reality and that they will use the skills in future years. http://www.geocities.com/amalatrafeed/project1.htm

Do students actually get the job they apply for if they have the rightqualifications ?

I was wondering about the success stories which you mentioned .what activity can be done on those or how can students utilize these stories to serve an academic purpose or maybe a social or moral pupose ?

The grade students get on the resume, job application, cover letter and job interview reflect whether the students get the job or not.
The success stories are in the text book. What I usually do is ask each group to read a story and fill out a graphic organizer I provide in which they have to provide the theme/s of the story. Then summaries of the stories are presented to the class. This way, academically, students are analyzing story elements, presenting information graphically, and practicing their presentation skills. Morally, they get to analyze positive qualities and behaviors a successful person needs to have.

That really sounds interesting Miss Amal. The units in Grade 10 are dull at times and need real-life projects to be intergrated. What I especially like about this project is that it is practical and useful to students who soon will be out looking for work.
